Beautiful set of hand-textured artist-colored, steampunk polymer clay gears suitable for creating jewelry. These have been made from molds cast directly from large gears my husband and I tore out of an old mantelpiece clock. Several molds were cast from each gear, meaning there are quirky variations in the final castings.
I originally made these for my own use but making them was so fun that I ended up with way more than I can ever use! It made me sad to see them in a drawer so I decided to put up limited lots for sale. Most of these have metal grommets; a few have only been drilled through, but all have holes for stringing or wiring. At about an inch to 1.5” in diameter, these are perfect for assemblage, wire wrapping, mixed media, and other jewelry applications. I've used them for wiring to my steampunk necklaces to add a touch of colour and texture, to make surprisingly lightweight earrings, and I've even just wired them up to become pendants.
I've hand-coloured these with custom chalk powders in matching but different colorways, baked and sealed them, added a metallic sheen to the highlights and added two more coats of sealant. You get the benefit of my ridiculous attention to colour and my notorious inability to gauge the passage of time - I should be charging more but I can't help it; I'm basing the price on what I'd pay to get a similar set (and I'm hilariously cheap), so these are a great deal and I'm excited to be able to offer them.
Part of the joy of this kind of original production line is the randomness of the results. In that spirit, I'm putting together a random grab bag of two of these versatile gears for you to add to your arsenal of unique jewelry components. Due to the method of batch coloring I use, any four will "match" and work either singly or together.
Details: Set of 2 strong hand-molded polymer clay discs, protected with at least two coats of diamond hard varnish. Perfect for assemblage, wire wrapping, mixed media, and other jewelry uses. Lightweight and suitable for earrings, necklaces, brooches, hairpins, and other jewelry. Second last photo shows some of the gears used for the molds. Final photo is an example of jewellery I've made using these pieces.
Photos are representational of the items you will receive; we will choose a random set of 2 for you!
